| Grünau lies some 160 km south of Keetmanshoop at the junction of the roads to Noordoewer and the Ariamsvlei border posts. Its name conjures up images of green meadows, which is what the German name means, but the plains here are, however, often devoid of grass. The rather incongruous name is probably a reference to the vegetation which is usually lasher there than further south because of the slightly higher rainfall that the area receives.
Grunau is situated 660 km south of Windhoek. It is a lovely small town & getaway to the Fish River Canyon, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
In this town you will find plenty of accommodation, petrol station, supermarket, and tow-in service. Opposite the Grunau Motors you will find the African Craft Market.
The ideal place to stay overnight before heading for Northern Cape. South Africa, the world's famous Fish River Canyon, Ai-Ais hotsprings or heading to the North of Namibia. |
