Windhoek the capital, situated in Namibia's central highlands. Is an attractive city surrounded by clusters of hills and the impressive Auas and Eros Mountains. Windhoek is an ideal starting point for every journey from which to explore the surrounding country side and its height above sea level is 1 650m. All travel arrangements can be made from here with highly equipped organizations. The city is enhanced by stately historic buildings from the 19 th century by German architecture. Some of these buildings which add charm to the city include the historic seat of government known as “ Tintenpalast ”, meaning Place of Ink, the graceful Cristuskirche and the white-walled Alte Feste , which used to be a fort but now a museum, reflects the history of the country. Like in other spheres of life in Namibia, the German influence is also significant in local foods. The local beer is brewed according to the traditional German “Reinheitsgebot” (purity laws), using only natural ingredients which can be found at all restaurants and pubs. Windhoek is home to luxurious hotels and guesthouses that can suit everyone's pocket. In the city bowl there is a variety of handmade African craft. The city offers fast and efficient banking service for foreign exchange, travelers cheques and 24 hour ATM's. Private medical hospitals and medical emergencies are available.
